After Robert Pattinson signed on to portray Batman, 31-year-old actress Vanessa Kirby expressed interest to play his adversary and romantic interest Catwoman, in the new upcoming Batman films.
Many people think she would be a good choice, as the sexy and witty feme fatale feline. Actress Aubrey Plaza, among a few others are being eyed for the role as well.
Vanessa is surely interested, after rumors were already swirling about the Catwoman role up for grabs. While Vanessa was wandering the red carpet during the Hobbs & Shaw (2019) premiere (where she appears along with Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Idris Elba) Vanessa was asked the question about Catwoman by Entertainment Tonight.
The actress said, “I don’t know anything about it… Are you kidding?! I would love to be Catwoman. Oh my god, it would be a dream. I’d have to do lots of squats. I mean, literally, lots of squats.”
Robert Pattinson’s Batman, is supposedly around 30 years old this would likely make Kirby as good choice for Catwoman. Most likely, the pair would be lovers and kind of enemies as seen in the comics.
If Vanessa lands the role, it would catapult her career further. There is a lot of pressure to get something like this right on screen. With so much fanfare around the previous films, any actress would love to land the role.
Competition will be fierce, another unknown might even take the role away from her. Vanessa Kirby has already racked up 30 different acting credits to her name. So, she has experience on screen, press and whatever else that would be involved.
There have been 10 other women who have portrayed Catwoman on screen including voiceover work. This includes: Halle Berry, Melendy Britt, Maggie Baird, Gina Gershon, Julia Rose, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Julie Newmar, Adrienne Barbeau and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Each of them brought something unique to the part. This leaves whoever lands the new incarnation with plenty of material to be inspired from. Many are looking forward to this casting choice and who they pick for the part.
