Paramount Network is launching a new documentary entitled “I Am Patrick Swayze”. The documentary is loaded with interviews with actors and actresses who worked with Swayze. Most importantly, are the comments made by his wife Lisa Niemi. Fans, friends, insiders and those who knew Swayze, admit he was a real original.
He seemed to work harder than anyone else, to prove to everyone he was more than a typical Hollywood hunk. Swayze was named by People Magazine ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ back in 1991. Swayze, was likely best known for appearing in iconic films such as “Ghost,” “Dirty Dancing,” “Point Break” and “Road House” – just to name a few.
Unfortunately, Patrick Swayze would lose his battle with pancreatic cancer on September 14, 2009. He was only 57 years old. Patrick met his wife Lisa, when he was 14 years old at the Houston Ballet Dance Company owned by Patrick’s parents.
Lisa Niemi, explains in her interview in “I Am Patrick Swayze” about the abuse that her late husband dealt with. It was particularly tough for Patrick. He was at the mercy of his very strict mother Patsy Swayze, who was also his dance teacher.
At one point, Swayze’s dad, Jesse, had to stop Patsy from ”laying into him” and threatened to divorce her, if she continued to harm their son.
“Patsy was an example of what happens in families in a cycle of abuse,” Lisa said.
When Patrick was younger, he often was the target of being bullied around, due to his appearance and wearing tights most of the time.
Eventually, Lisa began dating Patrick when she was 15 years old. The pair were later married on June 12, 1975. They remained together until Patrick’s untimely death. Many might not know that Patrick has a brother named Don Swayze, who also is an actor.
One scandal remains unanswered about Patrick Swayze, having a ‘secret son’ who looks just like him! His name is Jason Whittle who is 44 years old and lives in Missouri. He is still seeking a DNA test to prove he is Swayze’s son.
Allegedly, he was conceived during a one-night stand between his then-underage mother, Bonnie Kay back in the early 1970’s. Patrick Swayze would have been around 20 years old during this time. Bonnie later passed away from cancer in 2012, but did an interview with the Globe revealing what happened.
The documentary will air on August 18th. This year marks Swayze’s 67th birthday.
