HBO’s Game of Thrones, premiered back in 2011, Kit Harington was only 24 years old when production began. He was actually cast for the role several years earlier when he was 22. In recent times, Kit has been quietly seeking professional help.

According to a representative of the star, they told People Magazine (32 year old Harrington) sought help through counseling at a wellness retreat, to work on some personal issues. According to Page Six, Kit went to a luxury rehab center for both stress and alcohol related issues.

At this location, Kit has received psychological coaching and behavioral therapy to deal with and manage his varying emotional distress. A series of meditation type practices are helping him deal with everything it seems.

“For 10 years, Kit was almost interchangeable with Jon Snow, and fully inhabited this intense character,” the source says. “The role and especially the level of fame he was thrust into was a lot for someone so young and just out of drama school.”

“He took it very seriously, but it was extremely stressful,” the source adds. “Ultimately, now that he has that break and has said goodbye to Jon Snow, he needed help to figure things out and be himself — to just be Kit.”

“It was formative years for everyone,” Kit recently told People Magazine. “I started at 22 and ended at 32 and those are amazing formative years. If you’re Peter Dinklage, you started at 35. It defines that decade of your life, and that will probably the most bizarre decade of your life.”

It also seems that Kit struggled to adjust to life in the spotlight and the direction his character was going.

“It wasn’t a very good time in my life,” he told Variety in March. “I felt I had to feel that I was the most fortunate person in the world, when actually, I felt very vulnerable. I had a shaky time in my life around there — like I think a lot of people do in their 20’s.”

During Kit’s last days of filming the series, he broke down emotionally and physically by hyperventilating a bit. When they called out ‘Wrap!’ Kit broke down and was overwhelmed with an onslaught of relief and grief about not being able to do this series ever again.

Who knows what the future holds for the actor. The world is his oyster it seems and more roles will likely follow. First, he will have to let go of Jon Snow once and for all.
