The pair have previously appeared together in the franchise as Neo and Trinity. They made the roles their own and the films were groundbreaking for their time.
Collectively, the previously three films earned $1,632,989,142 dollars worldwide. It was a smashing success and fans of the franchise eagerly await to see another installment.
Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct a fourth film set in the world of “The Matrix”. Lana has previously been apart of The Matrix series, V for Vendetta, Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending and Sense 8.
The new Matrix movie will also be written, directed and produced by Lana Wachowski. Her sister, Lilly was also a part of the initial pre-production effort. However, Lilly will not be a part of the latest movie, because she is at work on her latest television project “Work in Progress”.
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality, are even more relevant now,” Ms. Wachowski said during a press release.
The first film “The Matrix” was released back on March 31, 1999. A sequel was released titled “The Matrix Reloaded” on May 15, 2003. Afterwards, “The Matrix Revolutions” followed on November 5, 2003.
The Matrix was a mindblower of a film when it was released. The main core of the story, follows a hacker named Neo, who ends up leading humanity’s rebellion against sentient type machines.
Toby Emmerich, the chairman of Warner Bros. Picture Group, made the announcement in a press release back on Tuesday. “We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” he said. The breaking news was first reported by Variety.
Warner Bros. will produce and distribute the film along with Village Roadshow Pictures. Grant Hill has been named a producer along with Ms. Wachowski.
Many moviegoers and critics are eager to see what will happen next. The franchise was praised for its visual aesthetics and novel action type sequences.
