Starkville Woman shot and killed by her husband while working inside Walmart

A terrible shooting happened recently at a Walmart in Starkville‬, Mississippi‬‬. The Starkville Police Department, have only begun to release details but what is known so far, is that a man shot his estranged wife, while she was inside Walmart on Saturday morning. The incident happened at around 9:30 a.m. in the morning Saturday.

Officers responded promptly according to Chief Frank Nichols. The store itself, is located on Highway 12 West and is being described as an isolated incident. There is a Facebook video by Ken Murrell which shows officers surrounding the suspect in a parking lot. Where this happened isn’t known yet. However, the man dropped down to the ground taunting the police, begging them to kill him.

Inside of Walmart, one officer kneeled over the victim who has been identified as a local optometrist named Shauna Whitt age 42 of Maben. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt released the information today. According to reports, there were two rounds which struck her. Shauna lost her life at 10:05 due to the severity of the wounds. Shauna initially was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Shauna Whitt worked at the Walmart Vision Center inside of the store. Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady with the Starkville Police Department said Whitt was shot by her estranged husband. The alleged shooter’s name and age will be released as soon as charges are determined, Lovelady said.

Officer Lovelady also made note, that the man (husband) was still armed when he was arrested.

For now, the Walmart location has been secured police said but will remain closed until officers have cleared the scene.
